There is nothing better than attending a baseball game. But lately, there is something that has become as much a part of the game as the hitting, pitching, hot dogs, peanuts and National Anthem; it’s the “walk-up” song for each batter. It’s their special musical selection that describes their attitude, or some swear helps their batting average.
Brandon Crawford of the San Francisco Giants told the San Jose Mercury News that his batting average jumped 20 points after he switched his musical vignette to Kelly Clarkson’s “Stronger.”
Here are some of the more interesting walk-up songs:
- LA Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw uses Funs “We are Young”
- Seattle Mariners second baseman Robinson Cano has chosen “Te Prendo” from Chimbala
- San Francisco Giants catcher Buster Posey strides to the plate with Brantley Gilbert’s “Hell on Wheels”
- Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Paul Goldschmidt prefers “It’z Just What We Do” from Florida Georgia Line
Dr. Dre, Jay-Z and DMX are well represented at ballparks around the major league along with Guns ‘n Roses classic “Welcome to the Jungle” and even “Song of the South” by Alabama.
So, what is your “walk-up” song? Here are three I have picked: “Won’t Get Fooled Again” by the Who, David Bromberg’s “Will Not Be Your Fool,” or “Some Beach” by Blake Shelton. We’d love to see what your song might be, and what occasion you might use it for.
