Elden Elmer has volunteered with South Knox Elementary for over the past 14 years. He spends about 3 days a week helping in the kindergarten classrooms, going on field trips, and helping raise funds for the kids, including lunches.
Since the school is short staffed with parents helping, Mr. E is able to provide a helping hand when needed whether it’s laminating and copying or helping tie-dye shirts with the kids. He helped collect money from his local church to help with the school book fair. Colleagues say that he always has a positive outlook on life, and he says that it’s fun to work with all the kids.

How wonderful would it be if all schools could be blessed with a loving volunteer like Elden Elmer?! I’m sure he is certainly someone the children will remember all their life.
Mr. E is such a blessing to the children and staff. He is always there to help and to give a kind word.
Mr. E provides a much needed service to a school that doesn’t always get what it needs. He understands that educating children is worth more than just a paycheck.
Mr. E is the best! I teach Pre-K and watch how much Mr. E contributes to Kindergarten and our school. Mr. E is my hero!
Mr. E is amazing. He provides a Grandfather figure to all the students he comes into contact and is a great support to staff. The children adore him and look for him. One might catch him reading with a child or preparing them for their lessons. His integrity stands out. In this day and time so many of the student’s Grandparents are not able to be actively involved in their school life due to work, health or distance. Mr E. stands in for them! We are so blessed and thankful to have him!
Mr. E is so dedicated to South Knoxville. He is always there working with the children and staff.
He gives daily of himself and his expertise. What would we do without him? I wouldn’t want to know.
Mr. E is such a blessing to SKE. He goes above and beyond volunteering his time to help the kindergarten students and giving the staff the much needed support that they need.
Mr. E is one of a kind for sure. He volunteers his time for our kindergarten classes so willingly and with such care. I see him first thing in the mornings as he is entering the building and he always greets me with a wave of his hand and with a sweet smile on his face. Mr E is a true treasure to our sweet little school.
Mr. E is my hero! I teach Kindergarten and he helps us so much. He does a lot of the behind the scenes work so that the teachers can focus on teaching. It is great to have an extra set of hands when working with the Kindergarten classes too. The kids love him. He is awesome!
Mr. E is awesome and so dedicated to South Knoxville Elem. and their students. Definitely a hero!
Mr. E is such a kind and generous person, always devoting his time to help others in need.
In all of my years in education, I have never known a more dedicated volunteer. We are so blessed to have him at SKE. He is a positive role model for our children.
Mr. E. has touched so many of our children’s lives at SKE. To them, he is as much a part of the staff as any of us teachers!
