How to Vote for Traci
Congrats to our Hero of the Month, Traci Smith! Voting is now Closed! Thanks to all who shared and posted below. Be sure to stay tuned for our upcoming April Finalists.
Be sure to read all our heroes’ stories here.
Traci Smith is as critical care paramedic both at Grinnell Regional Medical Center and with East Poweshiek Ambulance Service where she is also the Director of Operations. Traci joined the ambulance service in 1997, and quickly went on to study to become an EMT, then to further become a paramedic. She teaches CPR classes for businesses and groups who need training and to those who want further mentoring in becoming an EMT like herself.
Friends say Traci is always ready to give a helping hand, whether medical, or someone in just need of a hug. It was mid-November when Traci met Tim and Barb for the first time. Tim collapsed at work and headed to the hospital. This was one of many trips. Tim met Traci, and stayed in communication with the family even after more trips especially through the holidays. Traci kept in contact with Barb throughout the whole experience. Collogues say Traci is one of those people that knows everyone and everyone knows her.

Vote for Traci Smith. Regardless of the outcome this woman is and will continue to be a Hero every day. I’m fortunate to have the opportunity to work with and learn from such an intelligent, compassionate Medical Professional. But the truly blessed are those who Are cared for by Traci with unyielding kindness and expertise. Paramedic, hero…rock star!
Traci is an excellent coworker and a wonderful paramedic!!! She has already own in my book!
Traci is such a great person – one of the most dedicated, professional people you would
ever want to meet – she is a real asset to our ambulance service – our communities are
lucky to have her – there are not very many communities our size that have a paramedic transporting ambulance service – I am proud to have served with her and to call her a friend.
I knew Traci when she was a “youngster” and she was a compassionate person then, too.
Go Traci! We are incredibly blessed to have you as part of our community! Thank you for ALL you do! 🙂
I have the awesome pleasure to be able to work alongside this caring, professional and dedicated member of GRMC ER. Thank You Traci for giving you all in everything you do.
Traci is an amazing person! She has taught me so many things. I became a member of East Poweshiek Ambulance and she became an instructor for the EMT course and I took it and passed. She was a wonderful instructor and made it fun and easy to learn. I also got a chance to work with her in the Emergency Room in Grinnell. She is also a member of the Brooklyn Fire Department so she has her hands full there too. She’s always there to help anyone in need. I have called her for advice on something and she will always try to help. She’s a definite inspiration. GO TRACI!!!!
Traci is the most caring professional I havev ever met. She lives and breathes community service,
I have know Traci for many years and she is passionate about her life and her career and it shows in everything she does. Not sure Brooklyn or Poweshiek county would be the same without her….sometimes I just wish she could clone herself so that she could take time off.
Traci is dedicated and cares. She should win. I am proud to work with her.
Traci is wonderful! Very dedicated to her job. We have had to use Traci’s services on the ambulance twice, and for hospital visits. Thank you Traci for all that you do!
Traci is a wonderful paramedic. Poweshiek county is lucky to have her serving our communities. Thank you!!
We shared our story because we believe Tim would not be here with out Traci’s expertise and persistence in her medical field. She does an incredible job! We, as a county are gifted to have her on our team!

Traci is a compassionate and dedicated individual. She would be an excellent choice!!
Way to go Traci!!!
I wanted to tell you that Ι usually visit this blog with my iphone,
when I am on the Ƅus to work, and it’s oոe of the few
Ƅlogs that are legible on smartphones, and without even squinting your eyes.
I have family in Brooklyn and I’m relieved to know that they would be taken care of with such dedicated professionalism and loyalty to the community that Traci serves. She’s a hero every day! The community is surly blessed! Thank you Traci for your service.
If I ever have the need for medical services I hope to have Tracy as my caregiver. She is one of the most competent, caring people that I know. She always has a smile and a friendly greeting for everyone.
I voted. Thank you for all you do…..
Caught a glimpse of Tracy in action recently at Grinnell Regional Medical Center. We’re thankful to have dedicated, dependable people like Tracy on duty.
Thank you for giving of your time and talents. You are truly appreciated!

Traci is an elite paramedic who is committed to providing not only exceptional care to each patient she comes in contact with but also teaching her knowledge to all of those around her. It’s a privilege to call Traci a friend and to have been able to work and learn so much from her!
Traci is truly a gift to Brooklyn and surrounding communities. Thank you for all you do.
I think I coached this girl in HS softball. Wonderful person.
Traci is very deserving of this award! In smaller communities health care providers are frequently overlooked although they are detrimental to the residents of rural Iowa. She has touched many lives and should be recognized for all of her contributions! The people of Poweshiek county are lucky to have her and their many other amazing EMS providers!!!
Traci is a very caring and professional person on and off the job! She is the best co-worker at GRMC and we are all better people for knowing and working with her! I would trust Traci with anyone of my loved ones if they were ever in need of medical help!!!
Traci is so deserving – I hope everyone votes
This person deserves ALL the praise that comes her way. Traci NEVER misses giving each situation her FULL effort. Whether Traci happens to be the EMT or on staff at a hospital she excels beyond her duties. Her services as and EMT and Director of the East Poweshiek Ambulance Service have become more than just an occupation, they have become a lifestyle. A lifestyle that has impacted the communities around her in the most positive and profound way possible. Congratulations on the nomination, you deserve this Traci!
I have known Traci for over 7 years and am constantly amazed at all she does for the community. She works full time at Grinnell Regional Medical Center, is a critical care paramedic , teaches Basic Life Support, is the Director of the East Powesheik Ambulance Service AND is a volunteer firefighter. No matter how packed her schedule appears, she is always available to help others.
Come on Traci!!
Please vote for Traci
Can’t think of a more deserving person for this honor than Traci! I remember the days of Traci studying for her EMT certification… working full-time while studying before & after after work and during breaks! Her dedication and determination was as apparent then as it is today. Over the years she has worked with local schools to provide tours of the inside of an ambulance and explain the role of the EMT providers in an effort to reduce fears should a child need these services during an emergency situation. Traci has also been there for me personally by providing medical care for me, my children, or for my parents at GRMC. When I enter that emergency room and see Traci, I am assured we will receive the highest level of medical care combined with her compassionate bedside manner. Traci’s sense of dedication to her community is apparent to all those who encounter her! She lives and breathes her work and volunteer services! Our community is a better place because Traci is in it! She is our guardian angel disguised in hospital scrubs!
The Brooklyn community is fortunate to have a dedicated person like Traci!
I work as a physician in the GRMC ED. Traci is a fantastic worker who I can always on for accurate information on patients. She is always trying to help improve patient care.
Congratulations Traci – you certainly deserve this!
Traci is an asset to our community! I am so grateful we have people like her around us!
