Joe has been a volunteer firefighter, EMT, and reserve deputy for what some say seems like thousands of years. His passion has always been with helping people. Joe started as a charter member of the fire department in 1974. He is the only original member still active today.
Joe still actively participates in training, responding to alarms, as well as acting as a mentor to many new firefighters. He’s not satisfied with just being an important part of his local fired department, though. As a reserve deputy, Joe has had countless encounters with criminals, including one arrest linked to a string of incidents surrounding a local methamphetamine ring. Joe continues his day job, and dedicates his evenings and free time to volunteering at the Sheriff’s Department and Fire Department.
Joe is a true hero – selflessly protecting his community, taking care of his fellow firefighters, and making the news on occasion!

Wonderful person, and a great friend
I have to say working with Joe Kenworthy for the last 22 years has been quite interesting. He is never without a story of his “adventures” as a volunteer firefighter or a reserve deputy. He is always there to help out anyone that he can in any way that he can. Whether is it helping out a fellow peace officer in a pursuit as a Reserve Deputy or riding a 4 wheeler through the woods to deliver a baby in the middle of a snow storm, you can always count on Joe to be ready and willing to help out when needed. I don’t know of a more deserving recipient for this award in the Wabash Valley.
One of the greatest people I have ever had the privilege of knowing. I don’t believe there are to many more people out there who’s as passionate about serving our community as Joe K.
I have known Joe literally all my life. Such a jokester, with the biggest heart! He has always been just that way. Love of family, fascination with fire (eh-hmm), and responsibility for those around him regardless whether he knows them well or not well at all. Always respectful, and I cannot imagine a more deserving gentleman.
I have know Joe almost my entire life. I have served with him as a volunteer firefighter fighting fires side by side and We have been side by side making arrests. Joe is a very compassionate and caring person who is a dedicated father, husband and now grandpa. Joe selfishly gives his time a talent to the good of his community by paying forward. Thanks to Joe’s commitment to the Sheriff’s Office we can always count on him to fill voids within the department or count on him as a “full-time” deputy sheriff. In fact Joe puts in as much time as my full time deputies.
Joe is very deserving for this recognition and I truly believe he is one of the best.
Great job Joe!
Good Luck Joe, you are a True Hero and deserving of the recognition!
If Joe wins the nomination, what will be his awards/s? Still, good luck Joe!

We love you Joe! good luck hope you win
Joe has to be one of the nicest guys I have ever met. I have know Joe since I was a young child and has always had that caring personality. And no matter the conversation he can always make you laugh. Best of luck Joe…your the number 1 candidate hands down.
One of the nicest, funniest, likeable, most compassionate, and devoted persons I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. Joe truly does know what it means to answer the call for duty for the betterment of his community. There is no telling the countless lives that have been changed for the better thanks to his selfless service to us as a community. We honestly do, at minimum, owe him a debt of gratitude for the sacrifices and service he has so diligently performed for so many years. Thank you Joe, for all you have done and continue to do.
Joe,way to go. MY hero. Doc
One of the most likeable, funny, and loving are just a few of Joe’s traits. He has been a friend for 25+ years. I had the honor of dispatching Joe on many calls as a deputy and worked beside him in the insurance business. He is a dedicated member to law enforcement, firefighting and business but most of all a family man first. He is a very animated story teller and some of these stories are legendary. I heard many a story about Joe, told by him and about him while I worked with him in the insurance industry. When I changed careers to dispatching, once again, Joe K. was there to continue the good times and epic moments. He is so deserving of this award. I cant think of any other man more deserving. Keep up the good work and God Bless You !!
